Skeet Shooting from High at Station Two

Hi, my name Don Snyder, Executive Director of the National Skeet Shooting Association, on behalf of ExpertVillage.com.

We’ve now moved on to station two of the skeet field. And here again we shoot singles from the high house, the low house, and then a pair of doubles which are released simultaneously from the high and low house. Again, this is a matter of getting, and the leads here are a little bit different.

The high house lead is about one foot, and the low house lead is about two foot, which equates to one foot in front of the target is about one finger, two foot in front of the target is about two fingers, the barrel out in front of the target. Again, the most important thing that you’ve got to do while shooting a shotgun, is always look at the target. You can see the barrel, but the barrel is a secondary image.

I’ll demonstrate. Again, I’m a right handed shooter. My left foot is pointed in the direction where I, approximately where I want to break the target. I’ve got a little bit of lean forward, I’m going to load a 12-gauge cartridge into the shotgun, I’m going to bring the shotgun to my head and face simultaneously, “Pull”!

That concludes the shot of a single high house two. Now one of the things that you must remember is that you can’t get the gun too far back into the house. You must come to a hold point somewhere out in this area and bring the eyes back to see the target actually leave the house, pick it up, get a foot in front of it, and pull the trigger.
